The unofficial Chess Olympiad took place in Munich between August 17 and September 1, 1936
This was the third unofficial Chess Olympiad after the previous ones held in Paris 1924 and Budapest 1926.
The unofficial Chess Olympiad was organized by the German Chess Federation because FIDE refused to participate due to the anti-Semitic character of the German statutes that only players of the ‘Aryan’ race could compete.
Finally he opted, on the FIDE Warsaw Congress of 1935, to allow federations and players to decide.
The absences were remarkable, for example the teams of USA, England refused to participate, and also top players like Alekhine, Bogoljubow, Tartakower, Vidmar, Flohr, etc.
Despite this, 21 teams participated, with 10 players per team. This event was held over eight boards, ten matches per round and 21 rounds, for a total of 1680 games.
The Team medals were for Hungary, Poland and Germany respectively, you can check the standings in this link.
